Origins
A hybrid of wild and cultivated varieties, developed by dr Bauer (Max Planck Institute)
Bushes
Vigorous, spreading bushes. Straight or semi-straight stems, with a
tendency to spread under the weight of its heavy crops. The thorns are
relatively rare, not too hard, almost execlusively on two-year-old.
Spare foliage.
Fruit
Oblong- or pear-shaped fruit, medium-sized (weight 7,4g), dark red, very
firm, not covered with any hairs, slightly fuzzy, with a
relativelythick skin. When ripe the berries can still be left on the
bush for a long time withoutdropping. Suitable for mechanical
harvesting, the stems being crack resistant. The fruit are usually born
singly or in pairs at the axils, but then one of the fruit is visibly
smaller. Slightly acidic but fair-tasting. Chemical composition: acidity
- 25,8 g/l, refractometric value - 630 O2, vitamin C content - 290
mg/l, high sugar content.
Characteristic features
Mid-late ripening. Average yeilds, 3,5 tonnes per acre within the first
two years after planting. One of the best of the diseas-resistant
varieties. Highly resistant to powdery mildew and leaf drop. Sometimes,
though, the bushes can be mildly affected by White Blister rust disease.
ecommended for both commercial growers and home gardeners, particularly
useful for organic plantation, where no pesticides are allowed.
